Mike Sanchez is an SF Bay Area born and raised musician who has become an in demand performer known for his technical proficiency, as well as his daring music choice. You'll consistently find him playing in venues throughout The Bay, or somewhere on the road between LA, Nashville, New York, and Chicago. Mike is available as a freelance artist, and clinician.

Projects

The Jazz On Tap Big Band is Mike's passion project. Composed of local and traveling pros, the group plays a challenging but crowd pleasing repertoire, and is available for hire for your next big event. Jazz On Tap is available for weddings, corporate events, holiday parties, and public events, and is in partnership with local luxury venues such as Cavallo Point, The Palace Hotel SF, and the Ritz Carlton SF. When he's not busy playing and teaching, Mike owns and operates Authentic Custom Events.

Influences

Initially studying with local musicians Kathryn Adduci, and Jeff Lewis in high school, Mike discovered his love of teaching and deep understanding of music through mentors like Jay Rizzetto and Howard Wiley. 

Mike's formative teachers include Jay Rizzetto, Bobby Shew, Charlie Porter, Ingrid Jensen, and Jon Ruff, as well as influences from many other working pros and mentors. He's done deep dives on classic pedagogy with direct students of James Stamp, Claude Gordon, Donald S. Reinhardt, amongst others, and he has developed a distinctive approach of his own.

Mike creates a lesson plan that is extremely personal to each student, while understanding that we all have the same goal: to play in all registers of the instrument with as much comfort as possible. Mike accepts a limited number of full time students, prioritizing embouchure correction and development, as well as mentorships with young, promising players.
